Eventually I’d like to get this on Amazon’s publishing service but I do not have the time right now to format it for that, so in the meantime I can send it to be printed and spiral-bound at your local office supply store.

I said in my last post that I am not a professional aromatherapist with a formal education in the field. All of my studies on aromatherapy & essential oils have been through numerous books and websites of those who are formally trained. That is – professionals, books, and websites that are not written by essential oil companies who are trying to sell you something, because their advice is usually not based with safety in mind. At one time (not that long ago!) I followed that advice myself & did some really stupid things that I regret. I hope now what I did does not have any long-term effects. I do not sell essential oils. (Sometime in the future, I may sell ready-to-use products such as the aromatherapy kit for labor I made for my sister.)

I highly respect the opinions of those who are formally trained in the subject…those people  are not usually the same people trying to sell you a consumable product. Selling something, calling yourself a “wellness expert/advocate/teacher/etc,” or heading up a company who sells a product does not make you an expert in essential oils. They are dangerous waters to tread when you think you are (and I have run across many on the internet who do think that). I know I am not an expert, and that is why I look to the real experts when compiling this information. I appreciate that we have the freedom to use essential oils, and would like to continue to have that freedom by teaching responsible & safe ways to use them before irresponsible claims in advertising get the whole operation restricted by the FDA.

If safe essential oil use is of concern to you too, but you don’t know where to start, you can purchase a PDF document on this topic for just $10. I see & hear so much bad information given to pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and moms of small children that it inspired me to research reputable sources and compile everything I could find into one concise document. (At this point in time it’s over 30 pages!) Yes, you could totally find all this information out there on your own…if you want to spend hours and hours sorting the baloney from fact like I did. OR you could just buy the PDF and read it in one night after the kids are asleep. AND you’ll have a great list of legitimate resources for further reading later on.;-)The information in my document is compiled from many reputable resources in the field of aromatherapy and currently includes the following:

  • How the industry is set up/marketing
  • General Safety
  • Topical Safety
  • Phototoxicity
  • Sensitization
  • Bathwater safety
  • Eye safety
  • Inhalation safety
  • Internal use safety
  • Safety with Children
  • Safety in Pregnancy
  • A list of over a page and a half of non-biased, educational, professional resources that you can check out for yourself
  • Numerous charts, such as: oils to avoid on children, oils to avoid in pregnancy, oils that everyone should avoid, oils that have a certain maximum topical use, dilution charts, and much more

I am occasionally updating & expanding this document. As it stands, I can think of several more charts & bits of info that needs to go in there, so it is by no means “finished.” If you have specific questions for an aromatherapist from our Southwest Missouri area, contact Teri Anderson. She has completed her training through Aromahead Institute (a reputable school). She is done with her studies but is working on the certification portion through the accrediting bodies of NAHA and AIA.
